This is a differential equations course for students registered in second year (Program 8)

and third - year (Program 2) and/or others.

The course will cover first and second order ordinary differential equations, operational

methods, variation of parameters, solution in series.  Bessel and Legendre functions, the

Laplace transform, and selected boundary value problems.
 

Textbook: Elementary Differential Equations with boundary value problems by

C.H. Edwards, Jr. and David E. Penney, third edition.

Tutorials: In addition to lecture you will attend a tutorial each week, during which you will

have the opportunity to go over Problems and receive some help from the tutor.

Marking Scheme: The course mark will be computed as follows:    Three quizzes 25%
 
                                                                                                    One midterm  25%
 
                                                                                                    Final Exam     50%

The best two quizzes will count 10% each and 5% for the worst.  Dates for quizzes will

be announced in lecture.  Date of the midterm to be announced in lecture.
