University of Toronto Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering Calendar 2000 - 2001 T-Program in First Year
CHAIR, FIRST-YEAR STUDIES
COORDINATOR, T-PROGRAM
FIRST YEAR STUDIES COUNSELLOR
The T-Program enables students in First Year who have been placed on probation after the Fall session to immediately repeat up to three courses and defer up to three Winter session courses to the Summer session. These three Fall session courses are offered again in the Winter session.
Normally they are only open to T-program students and to other students
required to immediately repeat the course.
Students who either elect or are required to repeat CHE112, MMS101 or a computer course will enrol in one of the regular winter session sections. In all cases, full-time students must carry 5 courses during the winter session. To be permitted to proceed to the Summer session, students must obtain an average of 60% or more on their repeated courses and no repeated course can have a mark less than 50%. Students in the T-Program who do not meet this standard will be deemed to have failed and will normally be required to withdraw from the Faculty for at least one year; if re-admitted they will re-enrol in the Fall session of First Year. The winter session courses which can be deferred to the summer session
are:
Courses must be dropped in the order shown with the exception that students who have obtained at least 60% in MAT 186 or MAT 196 may take MAT 187 or MAT 197 in the normal manner. Any courses dropped in the Winter session must be taken in the next Summer session. Winter session averages will be computed in the normal manner (excluding repeated T-program courses) after the results for the Summer courses have been established, and the promotion regulations will then be applied in the usual way. Thus, students placed on probation after the Fall session must obtain a Winter session average of 60% or more in order to proceed to Second Year. First Year students who obtain an average of 60% or more in the Fall session are required to immediately repeat technical courses in which their original marks were less than 50%. Those who have technical courses with marks between 50% and 59% may elect to immediately repeat them. In both cases, the repeated courses will be the same as those for T-students; an equal number of technical courses will be deferred. The results for the repeated courses will be included in the Winter session averages. Deferred courses will be taken during the Summer session but credit is only given for those with marks of 60% or more. These students are not deemed to be enrolled in the Faculty’s T-program.
