Summer Academy FAQ's: About the Academic Program
Q: Can I apply for the program after the April 28 application deadline?
A: Yes, however, you will only be considered for courses or themed topic stream that have room.
Q: What is a Stream?
A: A Stream is a collection of 3 related courses that complement each other. We have assembled a number of Streams for both the senior and junior levels. Taking a Stream is a great way to explore a particular discipline or area of engineering you have interest in.
Q: I am signing up for a Themed Topic Stream. Can I take whichever design course I like?
A: Yes. You can take any of the design courses in week 4. Although some of the design courses relate to the themed topic streams, you can take whichever design course you like.
Q: Can I take courses from more than one stream?
A: Yes, you can pick and choose courses from different streams to create a customized program. You can only choose 1 course per week.
Q: Can I take only one course?
A: Yes. You can take a total of 1, 2, 3 or 4 courses in the Summer Program.
Q: Can I take a DEEP Design course in Week 4 DEEP: Design Week without taking a course in Weeks 1, 2 or 3?
A: No. You must take at least one course from the core program, during Weeks 1, 2 OR 3 to take one of the DEEP Design courses.
Q: Should I pick second and third choice options for my course choices?
A: Yes. We strongly recommend you pick Second and Third Choice options for all courses you are registering in. If you choose Second and Third Choices, you will be considered for early admission to the program.
Q: I want more details about a specific course. How can I found out more?
A: If after reading the course description on the DEEP website, you have questions, email our DEEP office at engineering@ecf.utoronto.ca.
Q: What time and what days are the classes?
A: Courses run from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm with a 1 hour lunch break, Monday to Friday. See the course offerings section of the website for specific course dates.
Q: I'm a university or college student. Can I register?
A: No. The DEEP Program is for high school students or those entering first year university in September 2008.
Q: What happens if my course choice gets cancelled?
A: If your course gets cancelled but you've been accepted to the program, you will be offered an alternative course. We highly recommend you make Second and Third Choice courses so that you can be automatically considered for these choices in the event your First Choice course is cancelled.
Q: Is financial assistance available?
A: Yes, we have a bursary program. Please call our office at 416-978-3872 or email us at engineering@ecf.utoronto.ca for procedures and the bursary application.
